Who we are

Makens Weather (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a weather information and content provider. We use data and public social media signals to understand which weather and climate topics are trending so we can better inform our customers about what audiences care about, how sentiment is shifting, and which stories matter.

What this policy covers

This policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use our services, connect your own social pages, or when our analytics include public content from social media (e.g., Facebook) related to weather, climate, hazards, and preparedness.

We comply with Meta’s Platform Terms and use Facebook’s Graph API only as permitted.

Data we collect

A) From Pages We manage (“owned pages”)

  • Identifiers & metadata: Page ID, Page name, Post IDs, permalinks, timestamps.

  • Content features (when available): post text (message/story), hashtags, links.

  • Engagement/insights: impressions, reach, and other post-level metrics returned by Facebook for your Page.

  • Access credentials: a Page access token you grant via Facebook. We do not receive your password.

B) From other organizations’ Pages (“public/competitor pages”)

  • Public data only: publicly visible posts (IDs, permalinks, timestamps, sometimes text/story) and public engagement counters (reactions, comments, shares).

  • We do not receive private insights for Pages we don’t manage.

C) Site/app telemetry

  • Basic logs (IP address, user agent) and essential cookies/analytics to operate, secure, and improve the service.

How we use data (weather & climate focus)

  • Trend detection: find rising weather/climate topics (e.g., hurricanes, drought, wildfire smoke, heat waves) and track audience sentiment around them.

  • Content planning: identify best times to publish, copy length patterns, formats that resonate (video vs. link), and calls-to-action performance.

  • Customer intelligence: inform newsroom/editorial decisions, product messaging, and alerts when interest spikes around hazards.

  • Operations & security: debug, prevent abuse, and maintain reliability.

We do not sell personal information and do not build profiles about individual Facebook users. Our analysis is topic- and post-level, often aggregated/de-identified.

Sharing

  • Processors (under contract) that help us run the service:

    • Cloud hosting/compute (e.g., Cloudflare Workers, Cloudflare D1).

    • Email/service desk (support and optional alerts).

  • Compliance & safety: when required by law or to protect rights.
We don’t share data with data brokers.

Retention

  • Owned-page posts/insights: up to 24 months (aggregates may be kept longer).

  • Public page data: up to 24 months (aggregates may be kept longer).

  • Access tokens: until revoked or account closure.

  • Operational logs: ~30 days.

Security

Encryption in transit, access controls, least-privilege, and monitoring. No method is 100% secure; we continuously improve safeguards.

Your choices & rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your data, and to object to certain processing.
Contact: matt@makensweather.com. We respond within 30 days (or as required by law).

California (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell or share personal information as defined by law.

Children

Our services are not directed to children under 16 (or the minimum age in your region).

Changes

We’ll update this page for material changes and revise the date above.

Facebook Data Deletion Instructions

Last updated: September 1, 2025

Our app https://fb-monitor-api.matt-makens.workers.dev analyzes weather and climate topics using Facebook’s Graph API. For Pages we manage, we process post-level insights we authorize. For other organizations’ Pages, we store only public post metadata and public engagement counters to measure topic trends and sentiment. You can request deletion at any time.

If you connected your own Facebook Page

Email matt@makensweather.com with subject “Facebook Data Deletion Request” and include:

  1. Your Facebook Page ID and Page name

  2. Your Facebook User ID (admin of the Page)

  3. The phrase: “I request deletion of all data associated with this Page in [App Name].”

We may verify Page ownership (e.g., reply from an official Page email or Page Inbox). Upon verification, we delete associated tokens, stored post/insight data, and settings.

Timing: deletion within 30 days of verification (backups within 90 days).

If your organization’s public Page appears in our benchmarks

Email matt@makensweather.com with subject “Remove Public Page from Benchmarking” and include your Page ID and Page name.
We will remove stored records for that Page and exclude it from future collection.

If you used Facebook Login (if applicable)

Email matt@makensweather.com with subject “Facebook Login – Data Deletion” and include your Facebook User ID. We’ll delete data linked to that login and invalidate related sessions/tokens.

Self-service (optional, if added later)

If we introduce an in-app “Delete my data” control, navigate to Settings → Privacy → Delete my data to submit directly. This page will be updated when self-service is available.
